Overall, the cooking time was about an hour, and this recipe yields roughly 4 cups of sauce. It's pretty simple, as most BBQ sauce recipes are. Equipment-wise, a medium saucepan, a whisk, and a tasting spoon are all needed.
Ingredients:
20 oz cherry coke(Regular) -if using 16oz bottles, a bottle and a half-
3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
6 oz can of tomato paste
1 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
salt and pepper to taste
First, pour the cherry coke into the saucepan and bring it to a light simmer, letting it simmer until reduced by 3/4 of the total volume.
Reduce the heat to low, add the molasses, brown sugar, and tomato paste, and whisk until combined. Next, whisk in the ketchup, then add the rest of the spices. Once everything is added, season to taste with salt and pepper. I used coarse ground kosher salt and fresh ground rainbow pepper blend.
